BERGUEDÀ / PN de l'Alt Pirineu
THE EXPERIENCE Ride following the footsteps of the Cathars. On the Path of the Last Cathar, we will follow the traces of Guillem de Belibasta, the last documented Cathar, through his testimony of this cross-border journey of 231 Km on a horse.

Discover the magic of the landscape of the Catalan and French Pyrenees, the incredible beauty of three Natural Parks (Cadí Moixeró, Alt Pirineu and Ariège, passing through Berguedà, La Cerdanya, Alt Urgell, El Solsonès and Pallars Sobirà), which, dotted with forests, rivers, waterfalls and small towns, will allow you to discover the hospitality of some inhabitants who will try to make your trip an unforgettable experience.

Ride with your horse the route that witnessed the flight of thousands of men and women of the Middle Ages in their quest for freedom, and where perhaps between mountains and valleys you will feel the whisper of history.

WHAT CAN I DO We invite you to make the complete itinerary of the Last Cathar Way on a horse. The 231 km route between Bagà and Montaillou has been divided into 11 stages, although it is possible to do it in less days.

The horse route starts in the pretty village of Bagà, from where you will head to Gòsol, at the foot of the magnificent massif of the Pedraforca and the Serra del Cadí, from where paths will lead you to the Molí de Fórnols, to continue onto La Seu d’Urgell, capital of the l’Alt Urgell. The route continues through Castellbò until the French part of the route passing through the charming villages of Sant Joan de l’Erm, Santa Magdalena, Farrera, Tírvia and Vall Herrera, territory of the capercaillie, and the end of the route through Ariège.

The route takes advantage of the marked trails GR 107, GR 150, GR 11, GR10 and the network of roads of the Parc Natural de l’Alt Pirineu and the network of footpaths of l’Ariege. This route can be carried out from spring to autumn, since it passes by elevations above 1,700 meters and during the winter it is usually covered in snow. There is a winter variant that runs from Bellver to Porta passing through Guils de Cerdanya.
