Santa Maria de Bellpuig de les Avellanes Monastery gives you the opportunity to enjoy an ancient abbey of the 12th century adapted to modern needs. Located in a spectacular natural site made of forests, gardens and vineyards –ideal to enjoy a placid rest and to discover the landscaped, cultural and natural values of Montsec territory–, Avellanes Monastery is now open to people, culture, spirituality and local wealth. Apart from its monastic accommodation (37 double rooms), it gives you the opportunity to taste local gastronomy in its restaurant (El Claustre), to rent fully equipped rooms for meetings and celebrations, archives and library and summer camps, and to live along with the community of Marist brothers who live in the monastery.
Avellanes Monastery is located in a natural site of Aspres del Montsec that rime with small wooded hills, non-irrigated arable land and little valleys that host bucolic medieval villages. Departing from Avellanes Monastery, you can go for walking and biking routes that will allow you to discover this wonderful natural environment: Mare de Déu del Puig church, Puig de la Creu, Tisores Valley, etc. The monastery is the Meeting and MTB Renting point for long routes (Montalegre, Balconet de Santalinya, etc.). You can also go to the villages or interesting landmarks by car.

About twenty years ago, the Marist community of Avellanes Monastery decided to open their doors to visitors to in order to disseminate the historical and cultural values of the monastery. This ancient abbey built in the 12th century by Urgell counts still preserves part of its monumental ensemble, which is now listed National Heritage of Cultural Interest. The guided tour allows the visitors to find out about the history and the artistic value of the monastery and of its immediate surroundings. The place also hosts “El Claustre”, a restaurant that promotes traditional cuisine with local products.
