If the Catalan rural areas are among the best destinations, it is mainly because of their gastronomy. Every Pyrenean village has some typical dish that has been prepared all over the years in the local kitchens and has been brought to the tables of the restaurants, transformed into real gastronomic experiences. Based on the wisdom of a wide culinary heritage and on exclusive local products, these tasteful experiences contribute to both boost the rural regions and get in touch with local culture in a delicious way.

Come and taste the territory from its gastronomic origins to the most modern adaptations of its products. Let’s start with an activity that will take you to the most ancient feeding expression: the wild plants we can find in the area of Bellmunt-Almenara. This guided walk aimed at discovering the culinary uses of those plants will be followed by a wild products tasting. Focused on the natural surroundings of the village of Jorba, the activity will allow you to find out about the properties of the numerous plants you can find throughout the seasons as well as about the possibilities they offer so that you can cook them home.

Another experience of wild cuisine is also available near Poblet, where you can plunge into the world of spontaneous edible plants and discover their amazing cooking potential. During this practical workshop, you will identify and pick plants, and then make three or four dishes that you will later taste in order to enjoy the unknown flavours of those “border plants”, which grow along the paths and tracks.

Nearby, in Secans de Beliana-Preixana, you can also enjoy a guided tasting and pairing session with local products. You will have the opportunity to find out about the organisation of a food cooperative based on local products which promotes life in the rural communities. The walk in nature includes a guided tasting and pairing session with local products. According to the season, the wild products may be combined with other typical local products.

Local and seasonal products have always been important to Catalan cuisine. La Garrotxa region offers a perfect way to discover all the possibilities its cuisine gives you throughout the different seasons of the year. From new flavours to the memories of traditional cuisine, you will have the opportunity to taste them all at the end of the workshop, which can also be held at your house.

Aran Valley also gives you the opportunity to visit a series of producers’ workshops (cold meats, honey, liqueurs, cheese, cakes, …). A tasting route of products made in Aran Valley that will allow you to know the secrets of those families who preserve the gastronomic heritage of the region.

Among the numerous gastronomic experiences you can enjoy in the rural Catalan areas, don’t forget the one that is devoted to grapes and wine, one of the most emblematic certified products in the region. And what about living it on an e-bike? Go and pedal among centenarian vineyards along the river Noguera: a route that departs and finishes at Avellanes Monastery and includes wine and local product tasting.

The last gastronomic option we propose is a walk through the history of olive trees and olive oil in Ebro Delta. A full oiltourist experience that will allow you to discover the most ancient and numerous ensemble of millenarian olive trees in the Iberian peninsula. Find out about the evolution of olive oil extraction techniques throughout the time and go for the visit and tasting of homegrown oils.

In the same region, don’t miss the other emblematic gastronomic product : the Delta rice. Complete your palatal discovery with this original local product and find out about all the essential moments of rice farming.
