Thanks to its vast natural extension and its variety of landscapes, Catalonia offers a wide range of routes and itineraries to be enjoyed on foot, by (mountain)bike with kids or friends, … as well as on horseback: a different way to discover and enjoy nature! If you like fauna and flora, this post gives you a series of ideas that will allow you to know the area siting on a horse. Take a pen and paper and write down the horse riding routes you would like to discover!

Horse riding routes through the Pyrenees

Let’s start in the Pyrenees. In the region of Pallars Sobirà, Cavalls Wakan offers a wide range of horse riding routes and options. Here are the three most common ones:

Firstly, the Mallard Stroll is a one-hour horse ride that starts in the village of Montcortès and surrounds Montcortès Lake Natural Site. Aimed at all kinds of riders, whether experienced or not, this option will allow you to enjoy wonderful landscapes in the company of a professional guide.

Secondly, the Kite Route is a 2-hour ride that will allow you to discover the natural heritage of the surroundings of Montcortès Lake Natural Site while strolling through the ancient paths that were used to reach crops, meadows and forests.

And finally, if you have more experience and ride regularly, the Route of Peracalç Farm is an excellent option. During this two-day circular route, you will ride on the border between the regions of Pallars Sobirà and Pallars Jussà, within the area of UNESCO Orígens Global Geopark.

But the offer does not end up here! In Sort, Turisnat Sort allows you to discover the Pyrenees with your family. Apart from horse riding through Alt Pirineu Natural Park, you can also enjoy river and mountain sports that will make you feel the Pyrenees in all their splendour. Another idyllic area of Pallars Sobirà to enjoy horse riding is Cardós Valley, where Aventura Verda awaits you to discover the emblematic landscapes of the valley on horseback, through paths and rivers.

Horse riding routes through Cerdanya and Ripollès

In the province of Girona, the regions of Baixa Cerdanya and Ripollès host green and humid areas that are synonymous with paths and streams that are really worth the horse ride. The equestrian centre Hípica Els Torrents of Bellver de Cerdanya offers horse riding routes in the heart of nature: around Pi and Riu mountains, across Ingla Valley, discovering the villages of Nas, Prats, Prullans, Montellà … A perfect option to enjoy spectacular landscapes that combine high mountain, crops and streams. And if you have children aged between 3 and 11, what about taking up horse riding starting with a short pony ride at Hípica Mas Batlló, in Vilallonga de Ter?

Free horses in Berguedà

With its humid territories and its amazing landscapes, Berguedà hosts Miranda Foundation, set up in order to disseminate understanding and respect for horses, people and earth. Get to know some of the horses and find out together about their wellness, their life within the herd, what they like and what they need … A fantastic way to get in touch with horses in their natural habitat. Sounds great, doesn’t it ?

Equine-assisted therapy in the province of Lleida

Finally, coming back to the province of Lleida, specifically in La Seu d’Urgell, Equànima offers an interesting range of services: coaching with horses, equine-assisted therapy, ecotourism and equine podiatry. Our activities allow all the visitors to get in touch with nature and to interact with horses in an original way.

Equine Connection is a one-hour activity that allows you to discover how horses communicate, the way they are organised socially, and their vital and emotional needs. Equànima also offers an activity called My family and the horses, in which you will learn some basic principles of equine ethology and have the opportunity to brush horses. And to finish, you will do a coaching exercise aimed at uniting your family. A very interesting activity for all!

As you can see, Catalonia is a perfect place for horse riding. An original experience that will allow you to enjoy the landscape from a different point of view. The equine adventure is waiting for you. Come on, saddle up!
