Espai Orígens is a centre aimed at revitalising culture and tourism in the Mont-Roig region. To this specific end, it offers tourist and cultural tours related to the historical, archaeological and natural heritage of the territory in an educational and ludic way, especially aimed at families.
Together with Sant Llorens Archaeological Park and La Roca dels Bous site, it is part of the Archaeology Campus of Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and belongs to the area of Orígens Geopark, Catalan Pyrenees.
Its most outstanding activities are the experimental workshops related to prehistory, the visit of La Roca dels Bous Neanderthal site, the Tabac Cave and Merengue Memorial space, with digital tablets. For further information about our activities and visits, please check our website.

This experience will allow you to discover Noguera Neanderthal Territory through the visit of La Roca dels Bous site, which you will start on your own –following a series of observation points with an iPad– and finish accompanied by a guide. Once at the site that is being excavated, the tactile tablets will give you detailed information (videos, photographs and text) on the Neanderthal people and on the landscape that surrounded them 50,000 years ago. You will then be taught about the mechanisms and the methodology that allow to interpret the past of those hominids and to proceed to the fossil register. Approximate duration: 1h30. This route around Sant Llorenç lake will tell you about how local landscape was transformed by the dam. The guided itinerary delves into the changes produced in the natural ecosystem such as the proliferation of birds for which the reed areas are a safe shelter thanks to the restricted access for human beings. Sant Llorenç de Montgai lake is included in a Wildlife Natural Reserve and surrounded by a riverbank forest that has a very rich flora. Approximate duration: 2 hours. Suitable for all audiences.

This experience will allow you to visit Tabac Cave in a different way. With the use of a digital tablet, you will know about the secrets and the heritage hidden in this 198-m2 cavity, designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The walk will take you back in time until the period when the Pyrenees were formed. The geology of Mont-Roig mountain range tells us about the prehistoric landscape of the region while walking through a forest of oaks, pines and holm oaks. As we go up , we will see Mu Defile, and once in the cave, you will be amazed by its geometric shapes and by the remains of cave paintings on the walls. Approximate duration: 4 hours.
