Àssua Valley is a gateway to Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park and to the most remote lakes in the area. Located 2,466 metres above sea level, in the municipality of Sort, Mainera lakes inspired Josep Virós to write his novel Verd Madur (“Mature Green”), which was once brought to the big screen. The National Park is characterised by the immensity of its mountains and glacial valleys and by its numerous lacustrine areas. Thanks to its wealthy fauna and flora you will enjoy on the way, this is one of the most appreciated landscapes in Catalonia.

During the period of the Second World War (1939-1944), thousands of people crossed the Pyrenees to escape from the persecution they were victims of in the German-occupied Europe. The “Persecuted and saved” routes emphasise the importance of cross-border areas and paths as cultural itineraries and memorials to inform about the crucial role this territory played to allow the people who were persecuted during the Second World War to escape through the mountain passes. What about discovering this part of history through 5 different routes, on foot or on board a 4x4 vehicle, across the passes of Àneu Valleys, Cardós Valley and Farrera Valley, in the heart of Alt Pirineu Natural Park?
