Guided tour of Avellanes Monastery

About twenty years ago, the Marist community of Avellanes Monastery decided to open their doors to visitors to in order to disseminate the historical and cultural values of the monastery. This ancient abbey built in the 12th century by Urgell counts still preserves part of its monumental ensemble, which is now listed National Heritage of Cultural Interest. The guided tour allows the visitors to find out about the history and the artistic value of the monastery and of its immediate surroundings. The place also hosts “El Claustre”, a restaurant that promotes traditional cuisine with local products.

A massif that is full of holes

This half-day hike crosses the winding road of the Ports departing from Roquetes and includes the following: explanations on the geology of the mountain range –a real Jurassic Park that majestically overlooks the plain–; ascent to Mount Caro, with spectacular views of Ebro Delta, across forest tracks until La Mola de Catí; visit of Cova Cambra, with tasting of local products in the heart of nature; short and large sections of paths that cross lonely woodlands; fauna, flora and mushroom watching; and unique sceneries for photography and nature lovers. In spring, asphodels, peonies and orchids paint the mature forests of La Mola with wonderful colours. And in autumn, maples and mushrooms are the ones that give colour to the landscape.

Treasures of Alt Pirineu Natural Park through Orri Massif

Discover the natural treasures hidden over the course of each season in Les Comes de Rubió, one of the most emblematic sectors of Orri Massif, in Alt Pirineu Natural Park, on the other side of Portainé Ski Resort. After leaving Sort through Siarb Valley, you will get to Rubió, with the first viewpoint and Roques Garden. Once there, quit N-260 main road to Les Comes de Rubió Refuge and walk around into the forest in search of some animal tracks, enjoying the surrounding vegetation. You will then ascend to Orri Peak (2,436 m) on board a 4x4 vehicle to admire the spectacular 360º views.

Montsec’s treasures

This 2-night/3-day stay is an experience aimed at discovering, watching and walking through Montsec’s treasures: Montrebei Defile, Os de Balaguer Castle and Bells Museum of Catalonia (if you pass the exam, you may get the Carillonist Certificate of Catalonia!) and Montsec Observatory, the only one in Europe equipped with a movable dome, among others. L'Altra Cara de la Forca self-guided route

The main part of this historical, cultural and landscaped route goes through Cadí-Moixeró Natural Park. After departing from the foot of the spectacular north face of the Cadí mountain range, in Cerdagne, you will take the other slope to Berguedà region across Gosolans pass, which used to link both regions and will take you the territory of the impressive Pedraforca Massif. This route allows you to discover Vansa Valley, where you will intensely enjoy the small mountain villages and their inhabitants, who still preserve the rural heritage of their valley. You will finally descend to Alt Urgell plain, a green and cultivated valley watered by the Segre river and surrounded by mountains that will take you back to civilisation, in La Seu d'Urgell.

Trans Garrotxa

Trans Garrotxa (www.transgarrotxa.cat), known as the Volcano Route, is an impressive mountain bike proposal aimed at discovering the most unknown part of La Garrotxa region. The 2, 3 and 4-day options mean a demanding route which stands out for the many trails and paths between thick beeches and holm oaks, as well as for the large number of rivers and streams, with their pools –very common in La Garrotxa–, spread around old mills, farmhouses and numerous Romanesque chapels scattered throughout the territory. The route also includes luggage transfer, accommodation (optional Luxe and Eco, according to the proposal), dinners and breakfasts (optional lunch), tracks and maps of the route, and a technical t-shirt (gift). The Trans Garrotxa Route will not disappoint you. It is both demanding and wildly spectacular.

Donkey ride/walk

During this 2-hour ride/walk with the donkeys, the adults will hold the donkey’s bridle and learn to communicate with the animal while the kids (under 12) will be sitting on the xauma (traditional saddle). Trans Pedraforca (www.transpedraforca.cat) is a magnificent 2, 3 or 4-day mountain bike route around Pedraforca mountain with various levels. It is “a wonderful mountain bike adventure through an impressive territory”, as the route surrounds the Pedraforca massif, which is listed a Natural Park of National Interest. In addition, a great deal of the route is located in Cadí-Moixeró Natural Park, an area that is specifically protected to preserve the native flora and fauna and that allows you to pedal in the middle wonderful beeches, lonely grasslands and extensive pine woods. El Berguedà is a privileged region to experience nature in all its splendour. The activity includes luggage transfer, selected accommodation, half board, maps and tracks, and optional GPS in order to enjoy a wonderful mountain bike adventure.

Hot-air balloon flights overlooking Solsonès region

First dive

Roca de la Creu via ferrata in Ribes de Freser

A via ferrata (iron path) is a wall equipped with iron rungs and a steel wire that helps you progressing attached. It is a simple way to climb a mountain. You can find vias ferratas for all levels, ages and tastes. This 3-hour activity is ideal for families with 7-year-old children or older, friends, couples, teenagers, colleagues, … A unique form of enjoying nature. Just go for the experience! Although you can do it all year round, it is recommended to be done from autumn to spring. Located in Ribes Valley, in the Eastern Pyrenees, Roca de la Creu Via Ferrata is a real good place for beginners. This iron path is really lovely, well-equipped and intuitive, with no difficult part at all, that will make you go through a Nepali and Tibetan bridge. Ideal for beginners and families. You will enjoy wonderful views of the Pyrenees all the way through.

Delta exploration

This option combines kayaking and cycling through Ebro Delta. After departing from our facilities by bike and following the ancient towpath between the rice fields and the river, you will reach the picturesque village of Balada, the smallest in the Delta, located in front of Gràcia island. Once there, you will swap your bike for a kayak and get on to the majestic waters of river Ebre, admire the banks that still host river woodlands as well as the flora and fauna, and end up at the quay of Riu a l’Ebre.

Migrating Birds of prey

Guidance aimed at observing several species of migratory birds of prey from the only viewpoint made for this purpose in the whole Catalan Pyrenees: Galliner viewpoint, located on the north face of Cadí mountain range. You can see large flocks of European honey buzzards (Pernis apivorus) at the end of August and hundreds of short-toed eagles (Circaetus gallicus) in mid-September in a single day. The list of observable species includes 17 species of migratory soaring birds such as Eurasian sparrowhawks, white-tailed kites, booted eagles and kestrels

Hot-air balloon flight

The activity starts early in the morning, between 6.30 and 8.00, at Vol de Coloms’s facilities. You will be offered a light breakfast –coffee and pastry– while watching the balloon being prepared and inflated. Once the balloons and baskets are ready, you will take off for a 1/1.30-hour ride, in which you will enjoy the spectacular landscapes –with the Pyrenees in the background and the volcanos under your feet–, raise a toast with rosé cava, and taste a delicious lardon coca from Olot. After landing, you will go back to Vol de Coloms’s facilities to enjoy a typical breakfast with local products: bread rubbed with tomato, cold meats, Santa Pau beans with grilled sausage, La Fageda desserts, coffee, wine and ratafia liqueur. At the end, all the participants will get the corresponding diploma.

Birdwatching on board a kayak

During this activity, we will take advantage of the silent and manoeuvrable side of the kayak to discover the birds of the river Ebro in their habitat. Kingfishers, herons, egrets, white-tailed kites, ... are just some of the species you will be able to watch with binoculars, listening to the guide’s explanations.

Deer rut in Boumort (2 days / 1 night)

Blindfolded experience at Croscat Volcano!
