During the period of the Second World War (1939-1944), thousands of people crossed the Pyrenees to escape from the persecution they were victims of in the German-occupied Europe. The “Persecuted and saved” routes emphasise the importance of cross-border areas and paths as cultural itineraries and memorials to inform about the crucial role this territory played to allow the people who were persecuted during the Second World War to escape through the mountain passes. What about discovering this part of history through 5 different routes, on foot or on board a 4x4 vehicle, across the passes of Àneu Valleys, Cardós Valley and Farrera Valley, in the heart of Alt Pirineu Natural Park?

We offer you two options. On the one hand, located at 2,300 metres above sea levels, the wild lead and zinc mines of Liat will allow you to learn about how the minerals used to be transported: the little towers that are still standing, the 13-km cable car that led the minerals to the treatment plant in Pontaut, the mining buildings, the vertical bridges, etc. And on the other hand, Victoria mines, designed and adapted to visitors and families, where you will find out about the mining operations as well as about the history and life of the workers. Walk through the history of olive trees and olive oil. The experience starts with the visit of the Natural Museum of Millenary Olive Trees of Arión –where you will have the opportunity to admire the oldest and largest ensemble of millenary olive trees in Spain and, probably, in the world–, and goes on with the visit of the Molí de la Creu, a family mill dated 1884 that shows how the technique used to obtain olive oil has evolved. The whole activity obviously ends up with a tasting session of our home-made oil.

This is one of La Garrotxa’s musts. This morning outing will allow you to see the two most emblematic sites in the Natural Park of La Garrotxa Volcanic Zone: Corscat volcano and Jordà Beechwood (La Fageda d'en Jordà). Take enough water for the whole activity. This guided tour is also offered to disabled people, but for better accessibility, it is recommended to alter the itinerary and to use a Joëlette bike (if you tell us in advance, we will get one at the Natural Park of La Garrotxa Volcanic Zone).

This half-day hike crosses the winding road of the Ports departing from Roquetes and includes the following: explanations on the geology of the mountain range –a real Jurassic Park that majestically overlooks the plain–; ascent to Mount Caro, with spectacular views of Ebro Delta, across forest tracks until La Mola de Catí; visit of Cova Cambra, with tasting of local products in the heart of nature; short and large sections of paths that cross lonely woodlands; fauna, flora and mushroom watching; and unique sceneries for photography and nature lovers. In spring, asphodels, peonies and orchids paint the mature forests of La Mola with wonderful colours. And in autumn, maples and mushrooms are the ones that give colour to the landscape.

A hike from Camprodon to Cotlliure with spectacular mountain crests, woodlands and charming villages. From Camprodon valley to the cliffs of the Mediterranean coast, five hikes link the high valleys of the Eastern Pyrenees to the sea. You will be accompanied by a range of lush landscapes, from high mountains to seaside ecosystems, by way of the luxuriant woodlands of Vallespir, La Garrotxa and Empordà, sometimes on the southern slope, sometimes on the northern’s. You will go through a part of the Pyrenees that hosted a moving episode of the Catalan history: the Republican Retreat in 1939, which can be revived along the way, walking through its crossing points on both sides of the mountain chain. A Pas d'Isard is in charge of all the accommodation bookings and gives you all the information you need to do the trek on your own.

The main part of this historical, cultural and landscaped route goes through Cadí-Moixeró Natural Park. After departing from the foot of the spectacular north face of the Cadí mountain range, in Cerdagne, you will take the other slope to Berguedà region across Gosolans pass, which used to link both regions and will take you the territory of the impressive Pedraforca Massif. This route allows you to discover Vansa Valley, where you will intensely enjoy the small mountain villages and their inhabitants, who still preserve the rural heritage of their valley. You will finally descend to Alt Urgell plain, a green and cultivated valley watered by the Segre river and surrounded by mountains that will take you back to civilisation, in La Seu d'Urgell.

We propose a circular excursion departing from the Cadí-Moixeró Cable Car Stations up to the highest point of La Molina. This panoramic route will allow you to walk deep into the Natural Park and to have the opportunity to hike surrounded by chamois, marmots, vultures and –with a bit of luck– bearded vultures. You can also enjoy the local flora and all its summer splendour. Moderate difficulty and demanding itinerary.

This trek crosses the wonderful landscapes of both Alt Pirineu Natural Park, in Pallars Sobirà region, and Ariège Natural Park: deciduous and Atlantic woodlands, Alpine meadows and endless wild lakes and mountains that host a wide range of flora and wildlife species. Apart from their natural charms, these paths were the scenes of some people’s history: the Jews fleeing holocaust, and the Republicans. A dramatic human history that allowed some to escape from death. This is the historical context this trek must be done, in order to pay tribute to all the people who had to go through persecutions, economical scarcity or other harms that forced them to cross those Pyrenean passes.

This interpretative tour in nature starts at Pitoia Farm, an emblematic domain of Sebes Natural Reserve. You will get deep into riparian forests, reed beds, wetlands and fields of centenarian olive trees and enjoy a real paradise of biodiversity, ideal for nature and birds lovers. The footbridges will take you to the heart of the Reserve and to the observations points of birds, Camargue horses and storks. Refugis del Torb (Torb Mountain Huts) is a mountain trek that links the two most emblematic spots in the Eastern Pyrenees: Núria Valley and Canigó massif. You can go for a 5-day circular route or up to 7 steps, if you want to ascend the most representative peaks such as Núria, Coma de Vaca, Ulldeter, Canigó, Pi, Mentet and Carançà. This experience will allow you to visit Tabac Cave in a different way. With the use of a digital tablet, you will know about the secrets and the heritage hidden in this 198-m2 cavity, designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The walk will take you back in time until the period when the Pyrenees were formed. The geology of Mont-Roig mountain range tells us about the prehistoric landscape of the region while walking through a forest of oaks, pines and holm oaks. As we go up , we will see Mu Defile, and once in the cave, you will be amazed by its geometric shapes and by the remains of cave paintings on the walls. Approximate duration: 4 hours.

This route around Sant Llorenç lake will tell you about how local landscape was transformed by the dam. The guided itinerary delves into the changes produced in the natural ecosystem such as the proliferation of birds for which the reed areas are a safe shelter thanks to the restricted access for human beings.
